Sprouts!

Did we ever doubt that the potatoes were going to sprout? Please! Obviously when you follow the directions on the package things turn out just fine. Supporting that theory: my potatoes have begun to sprout.

Finally.

They may be small and difficult to spot (let alone photograph) but I definitely have at least two sprouting potatoes. With the compost dug into the empty bed and the weather getting colder every day I'm feeling a lot of urgency to get them in the ground, but now that the sprouting is finally happening it seems silly to rush things. How long do I wait, though? This tiny growth took more than two weeks and the packaging advises waiting for the shoots to be relatively long and sturdy. At this rate I'm worried that it will take too long though. Quite possibly this is because the warmest spot in the house, where they're sitting by the window, is still really not that warm. It's a very cold house and while we get plenty of sun in the garden on that side of the house, only a little of it actually hits the windows or heats up the inside.

Come on, potatoes! I believe in you!
