I have a total podcast problem. I listen to them while driving, while cleaning, while blogging, while gaming and, despite not having any gardening-related podcasts, whilst gardening. They're fairly evenly split between sci-fi subjects and knitting, with a handful of "misc" in there, and those knitting podcasts aren't just entertaining: they're a great source of ideas and inspiration, not to mention a lot of information.
Check out the links or simply search for these by name in your podcatcher app of choice (or iTunes). Some back catalogues are available this way, others you may need to do some archive-diving to access (and as someone who can't handle starting something half-way through - all of these are accessible if you have a look).
Food and Gardening
A Way To Garden with Margaret Roach
- From birdsong to bread to backyard seed breeding, Margaret Roach and her guests cover so many topics that it's almost difficult to keep up - but it's always a pleasure, and always interesting.
- The family at Chicken Thistle Farm describe their adventures (and misadventures) in becoming farmers. They also talk about their business and decision-making process in a really fascinating insight into the running of such an undertaking.
- Ever wondered what hippos eat or how to make southern food without a tin of mushroom soup? This radio show is a lot of fun and full of variety.
- While I tend to be sceptical of the sceptical, Wardee's podcast is all about easy family cooking and the traditional methods that are less common in a convenience-focused society - and those are things I can get behind!
- This show is always a pleasure and full of so much practical information that it's difficult to keep up. I especially appreciate them answering listener questions, which are often more personally applicable than the things experts would think to tell you about!
Knitting
Brass Needles
- Miss Kalendar's podcast is a mixture of knitting, steampunk and scifi - three of my favourite things! She's a pleasure to listen to and it's nice to get a little variety amongst the knitting talk, too.
- Helen Stewart's cheerful, UK-based podcast is an easy listen from a knitting designer.
- This is one of the most straight-up informative podcasts in my list. It only has 15 episodes but every one of them is worth a listen, covering a lot of info about designing, modifying and finishing up your projects.
- Jasmine and her mother Gigi are a charming duo with a huge back library of episodes to listen to. They also branch out into spinning and talk about the things they've learned about knitting as they go along, including my favourite advice segment - Mother Knows Best.
- Susie and Danie chat about what they're working on. They're adorably sweet and this is one I listen to when I need something nice and relaxing.
- Jenny and Nicole fight against stash creep in this knitting podcast, trying whatever it takes to avoid the dreaded state of SABLE - Stash Amassed Beyond Life Expectancy.
