This Garlic is In A Hurry

It's really cold outside! The garlic is in a hurry to get growing, though, and my strawberries look happier now than they did all summer.

They do have some weird green things growing, though?

Today I weeded until my fingers were numb because damn, whatever this cruddy little weed is it has taken over the strawberry bed and I'd really like them to keep spreading so I can have heaps of fruit next year. It's a total pain to try to get out without tearing it off the roots and I'm sure it's going to reappear the second my back is turned. While I was down there, though, I noticed a handful of little plants had popped up around the strawberry. They look a little like it but aren't attached by runners - do strawberries grow this way? Has something else crept in under camouflage? I'm asking around to see if I can get an answer on whether they go or stay.

Good plants? Bad plants?

In the "will it grow?" camp - the garlic is growing! I've got four shoots that I can see (probably from the cloves that had already started sprouting?) and they're already a couple inches high. They're growing so fast!

The potatoes are still a maybe - there was something green in one spot in that bed, but I'm not entirely sure if it's friend or foe. That one we're gonna leave a while before getting any hopes up.
